Kevin Graffagnino, VHS Director presents “The Shaping of Vermont: Early Vermont Maps & Mapmakers," a slide/narrative version of his 1983 book, The Shaping of Vermont: From the Wilderness to the Centennial, 1750-1877, which used the maps as jumping-off points for discussing various aspects of Vermont history through the 1877 centennial of independence. Free and Open to the Public. Meeks Lecture Series.
Mon. 11/6. 4-7pm. Reception honoring Brownell Library Director Penny Pillsbury. Come celebrate Penny’s 20th anniversary as Brownell Library Director. Join members of the Brownell Library Community in the Kolvoord Room where a festive atmosphere and snacks will be provided.
Wed. 11/8, 7pm. Vermont author Carla Neggers enjoys a successful career as a romantic suspense novelist. According to a Publishers Weekly reviewer, she "keeps the reader guessing ‘whodunit’ to the end of her intriguing novel…” Ms. Neggers will speak about her recent bestseller The Widow and answer any questions. There will be books for purchasing and the author will be available to sign them!

Wed. 11/29, 7pm Beyond “200 Years of Soot & Sweat”, author & Vermont’s industrial archeologist Victor Rolando will discuss sites discovered since he wrote the book in 1992. Vermont was famous for iron and potash production in the 19th century. Plenty of time for questions. Meeks Series.

Wed. 11/1, 9am – DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – Each month, students in Gr. 4-8 hear book talks of 4 titles from this year’s DCF list. Students vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award in the spring. Group discussion encouraged! Call 878-6956 to register.
Wed. 11/1, 9am – Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in the spring. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.

Fri. 11/3 & 11/17, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Kids of all ages will enjoy Matthew’s lighthearted songs and improvisational stories. Lots of audience participation! No registration required.

Tues. 11/14, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: CORN – The NECI Student Chefs will share some history of this American crop, read some fun stories, and prepare a few tasty corn treats for you! For kids in Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.

The logo has to be about reading and include the words “Green Mountain Book Award” or the initials “GMBA”. Your logo design must be original artwork (no copyrighted images) in B&W only and no bigger than 81/2” X 11”.
