Wed., 12/2 6-8pm (After Village Tree Lighting) – Railroad Hop Reception with Refreshments – Starts at the Kolvoord Room with art exhibit and model trains: Get a “Ticket to Ride” to visit Railroad Street and Main Street businesses sporting RR art and more model trains. STILL TIME TO CREATE or lend Railroad ART to exhibit, all artists or lenders of RR Art get coupon for Free Book from Friends December Booksale. ALL ABOARD! Sponsored by the Railroad Works Committee, Railroad Ave. Revitalization Project, Village of Essex Jct and many volunteers. ~ Watch for Railroad and Revitalizations events in January and February ~

Mon., 12/7 7:30pm – Vt. Astronomical Society presents: Personal Observatories that allow observation of the skies with virtually no setup time, even with a larger scope. If you have a personal observatory in your backyard, it could be a Roll-Off Shed to a Commercial Dome. VAS members show you what they’ve learned. All levels welcome.

Fri., 12/11, 6:30pm – Adult Movie: “Roman Holiday” – The 1953 Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn classic about Americans falling in love abroad.

Mon., 12/14, 7-9pm - Public Star Observing Party at the Essex Jct Recreational Field – Deep Sky Event with three showpiece objects visible. Members of Vt. Astro. Society will bring telescopes to share. (Dec. 15 back-up date in case of clouds.) All are welcome.

Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months) – 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes & puppets for toddlers with an adult. (Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22)

Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets & math activities for preschoolers. (Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22)
Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program. (Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23)

Wed., 12/2, 9am – DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – Each month, students in Gr. 4-8 hear book talks of 4 titles from this year’s DCF list. Students vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award in the spring. Group discussion encouraged! Call 878-6956.

Wed., 12/2, 9am – Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in the spring. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register

Thurs., 12/3, 3:30-4:40pm – MPH (Middle School Planners and Helpers) – Students in Gr. 6-8 come and help re-design the YA room, help out with cool projects, and talk about what’s on your minds! Snacks too!

Fri., 12/4 & 12/18, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by the Friends of Brownell Library.

Fri., 12/4, 6:30-8:30pm – Teen Movie: “Goonies” – They call themselves "The Goonies." The secret caves. The old lighthouse. The lost map. The treacherous traps. The hidden treasure. And Sloth... Join the adventure. Popcorn and soda. Hosted by TAB. (PG-13)

Mon., 12/7, 3-5pm – Letters about Literature for Grades 7-12 – Write a personal letter to the author of your favorite book, explaining how the book changed your way of thinking about the world or yourself. Prize money for national and regional winners. Second session.

Tues., 12/8, 3-4:30pm – Teen Advisory Board – For teens, by teens. Plan programs you’d like to see, suggest books and DVDs you would like in the collection, have fun, bring friends. Snacks provided! New members always welcome. Gr. 9-12.

Thurs., 12/10, 3:30-4:30pm – High School Book Lust Club — Bring a book you have recently read to show the group. Snacks served. All high schoolers welcome.

Fri., 12/11, 10-10:30am – Drop-In Story Time for Kids of All Ages – Fun Picture Books! No registration required.

Sat., 12/12, 10-10:45am – Read to Sara, Therapy Dog – Sara is a Chocolate Lab who loves to listen to kids read! Her owner is an elementary teacher who will help you find a book to read to Sara, or you can bring one from home. For kids in Gr. K & up. Register at 878-6956.

Mon., 12/14, 3:30-4:30pm and 4:30-5:30pm – Holiday Gift Making - Kids in Grades K-5 can come to make holiday gifts for family members. Teens will supervise free gift-making and wrapping. Choose your 1-hour session and sign up now at 878-6956.

Thurs., 12/17, 3:30-4:00pm – Holiday Tales for Kids – Storyteller Linda Costello tells a variety of holiday stories to kids in Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.

Fri., 12/18, 6:30-8:30pm – Family Movie: “Jungle Book” – The Panther Bagheera has difficulty convincing Mowgli to follow him to the man village and recruits the help of a big lovable bear Baloo. Popcorn and soda. Hosted by TAB. (PG)

Mon., 12/28 2-3pm – Songs of Midwinter Holidays with Mary Ann Samuels & Susan Reit performing on a variety of instruments. December & January are rich with holidays throughout the world. For all ages. No registration required.

Tues. & Wed., 12/29 & 12/30, 3-4:30pm – Wii-tastic – Come try our new Wii Game System! MarioKart, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play! For Gr. 4 & up. Register at 878-6956.

Wed.,12/30, 10-11am – “The Gingerbread Boy” Puppet Show – The Traveling Storyteller puppeteers present the classic tale, in which the Gingerbread Boy runs away from the woman who baked him. For ages 5 & up
