Tues. 12/5, 3-5pm Screening “An Inconvenient Truth”-Al Gore’s global warning movie. Followed by a question and answer session with geophysicist Dr. Thomas Neumann. He has spent many months studying the effect of climate change on the ice pack in Antarctica and Greenland, providing us a chance to hear what science is saying on this important topic. Grades 4 and Up. Free and Open to the public. Movie on the big screen. Space limited.

Fri. 12/8, 6:30pm – Foreign Film Friday -Seducing Dr. Lewis- Journey north to a tiny Quebec island that has fallen on hard times. Watch this fun and highly-praised Canadian story of how villagers attempt to attract a doctor to town.
French (English subtitles). Not rated.

Wed. 12/13 Brownell Celebrates National Cocoa Day (Really!!)Come have a hot cup of cocoa for $.10 a cup. Yum.

Thurs. 12/14, 9am-1pm Library Closed for Staff In-service. Opens at 1pm

Mon. 12/18, 7pm Friends of Brownell Annual Meeting. Interested in being an active Brownell Friend; Come find out more. Plus there will be refreshments!!

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Fri. 12/1 & 12/15, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Kids of all ages will enjoy Matthew’s lighthearted songs and improvisational stories. Lots of audience participation! No registration required.

Fri. 12/1, 6:15-8:30pm – Teen Movie Night: “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare before Christmas” (PG) – Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmastown, but doesn’t understand the concept. Free popcorn & movie on the big screen. Space limited. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Wed. 12/6, 9am – DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – Each month, students in Gr. 4-8 hear book talks of 4 titles from this year’s DCF list. Students vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award in the spring. Group discussion encouraged! Call 878-6956 to register.

Wed. 12/6, 9am – Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in the spring. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.

Thurs. 12/7, 3-4pm – Teen Advisory Board Meeting – Come meet our new Young Adult Librarian, and help us plan January’s events for teens at the library! Snacks! New members welcome.

Sat. 12/9, 10-11am – Read to Clyde & Sara – Clyde (a Maltese) and Sara (a Chocolate Lab) are trained Therapy Dogs who love to listen to children read! Sign up now to read to Clyde or Sara for 10 minutes & listen while others read. Bring a book or find one here! Sign up at Youth Desk. For Gr. K-5.

Tues. 12/12, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: Dough Ornaments – The NECI Student Chefs will show us how to make dough ornaments for the holidays. Then we’ll hear stories about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. For kids in Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.

Fri. 12/15, 6:30-8:30pm – Family Movie Night: “The Polar Express” (G) – On Christmas Eve a doubting boy boards a magical train that’s headed to the North Pole and Santa’s home. Based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Free popcorn and movie on the big screen. Space limited. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.


Thurs. 12/21, 3-4pm – Book Lust Pizza Club – Come enjoy some fresh pizza! Bring a book that you have recently read to share with the group! It’s a great time and all teens are welcome. Call 878-6956 so we know how much pizza to order.

Wed. 12/27, 2-2:45pm – Storytelling with Linda Costello – Come hear Linda tell the story of “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” a Christmas fairy tale. For Kids in Gr. K-5. Sign up at Youth Desk.
