Wed. 5/2, 7pm – The Geology of Caves in Vermont: Slide talk by Geologist Rodney Pingree-A discussion of the different types of cave formation, limestone, cave environments, their discovery, exploration, and mapping & finish with safety concerns. Time for lots of questions! All ages welcome. Pingree is a founding member of the Vt. Cavers Association. Meeks Memorial Lecture Series.

Mon. 5/7, 3:30pm – Go Green: Practical Solutions to Curb Pollution— talk by Susan Sachs, Executive Director of Alliance for Climate Action. Learn practical ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Coincides with Workplace Commuter Challenge, Way to Go! Week, May 7-11th.

Wed. 5/9, 7pm – Kevin Gardner, author of The Granite Kiss –Traditions and Techniques of building New England Stone Walls – will cover a few of the main topics of his book touching on history, technique, stylistic development, and aesthetics. He explains how and why New England acquired its thousands of miles of stone walls, the ways in which they were built, how their styles emerged and changed, and their significance to the famous New England landscape. Meeks Series. Copies of his books available for sale and autographs.

Fri. 5/18, 6:30pm – Foreign Film Friday: Valentin - Set in 1960s Buenos Aires, Valentin is about a young boy whose feuding parents have left him to be raised by his eccentric grandmother. Amid the chaos he sets out to discover the harsh realities about his parents, while bringing joy to those around him. PG-13. Spanish. (English subtitles)

Thu. 5/3, 3-4pm – Teen Advisory Board Meeting – For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, please come and help us plan programs at the library that you’d like to see! Snacks! New members welcome.

Thu. 5/3, 3:30-4pm – Juggling and Magic Show – A troupe of accomplished jugglers from Ossipee Valley Christian School in Cornish, Maine will amaze you with their talent. This fantastic show, for all ages, will be held on the lawn, or in the Kolvoord Room if it rains. Sign up at Youth Desk.

Fri. 5/11 & 5/25, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Kids of all ages will enjoy Matthew’s lighthearted songs and improvisational stories. Lots of audience participation! No registration required.

Fri. 5/11, 6:30pm – Teen Movie Night: Blade Runner – Four “replicant” cyborgs escape in a darkly futuristic Los Angeles. Harrison Ford is a “blade runner” assigned to hunt down and kill the replicants. The movie asks difficult questions about what it means to be human and whether flesh and blood entitles one to humanity. Hosted Teen Advisory Board.

Thu. 5/17, 3-4pm – High School Book Lust Pizza Club – Come chat about whatever book you happen to be reading right now and have pizza too! This month will be for High Schoolers. Call 878-6956 so we know how much pizza to order.

Sat. 5/19, 10-11am – Read to Clyde & Sara, Therapy Dogs – Clyde (Maltese) and Sara (Chocolate Lab) love to listen to kids read! Sign up now to read to Clyde or Sara for 10 minutes & listen while others read. For Gr. K-5. Call 878-6956.

Tue. 5/22, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: Spring Greens – The Student Chefs from NECI will bring a variety of fresh greens, fruits, veggies, and dressings so you can make your own custom salad. Stories will feature Spring themes. For Grades K-5. Sign up at Youth Desk.

Thu. 5/24, 3:30pm – Storytelling with Linda Costello – Stories from the oral tradition are expand children’s imaginations. Come and listen to the wonder of a tale well-told. For Kids in Gr. K-5. Sign up at Youth Desk.

Fri. 5/25, 6:30pm – Family Movie Night: How To Eat Fried Worms – During the first day of his new school year, a fifth grade boy squares off against a bully and winds up accepting a dare that could change the balance of power within the class. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Summer Preview: This summer’s theme is “Get a Clue @ Your Library” – with mysteries for all kids!
