Adult EventsMon., Feb. 4, 7:30pm: Galaxies by Al Boudreau introduces the intriguing topic of galaxies starting with the Milky Way, the galaxy in which we are located, its “discovery” by Edwin Hubble, as well as the expansion of the Universe. Monster galaxy dimensions exhibited plus various types of galaxies. Beautiful photographs of numerous galaxies will be shown as we tourour section of the Universe. Boudreau is a retired Aerospace Engineer, an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a serious amateur astronomer with his own observatory in Bridport, VT. All levels invited.

Mon., Feb. 11, 7pm: Catamount Health Care Elucidated-presentation by Donna Sutton-Fay, Chittenden County Outreach staff for the Vermont Campaign for Health Care Security Education Fund, will focus on Vt’s new health insurance program for uninsured Vermonters—who can sign up, how the program works, how to get paying the premium and the cost of the package.

Wed., Feb. 13, 7pm: Paranormal Investigators of New England: They Are Who You’re Gonna Call! –Jeffrey Stewart of PI-NE conducts professional, private and confidential investigations based out of So. Burlington, but travels throughout New England. They investigate all Supernatural/Paranormal, Occult and inexplicable activity reported to their group. They not only investigate Entities (Ghost, Spirits etc.) but also reports of UFO's, Bigfoot, Lake creatures. Jeff will describe his company and the work they do.

Thurs. Feb. 14, 3:30pm Love Stories for the Not-So-Young with Storyteller Linda Costello—Valentine Day Special Treat Tales of love lost and found from many different cultures told by candlelight by Library Trustee Mrs. Linda Costello. High School and UP!

Fri., Feb. 15, 6:30pm: Adult Movie – “Groundhog Day” – 1993 comedy stars Bill Murray as a weatherman who finds himself condemned to live that day over and over.

Mon., Feb. 18: Library Closed for Presidents’ Day

Wed., Feb. 20, 7pm: Romance author Mina Samuels reads from The Queen of Cups, historically based story of Juliette, wife of Post Civil War Philosopher, Charles Pierce. In spite of her husband's addictions and depression, she never loses faith in the possibility of redemption and the power of love and loyalty.

Youth Events
Preschool Story Times!


Story Times are offered on a weekly basis – regular attendance is encouraged. Space is limited in each group, to avoid overcrowding. Here’s the schedule:
Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months) : 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, and puppets for toddlers with an adult. (Feb. 5, 12, 19)
Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds:10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets, and math activities for preschoolers. (Feb. 5, 12, 19)
Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds: 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program. (Feb. 6, 13, 20)

Fri., Feb. 1 & 15, 10-10:45am: Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by Friends of Brownell Library.

Wed., Feb 6, 9am: DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – Each month students in Gr. 4-8 hear book talks of 4 titles from this year’s DCF list. Students vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award in the spring. Group discussion encouraged! Call 878-6956.

Wed., Feb 6, 9am: Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in the spring. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.


Thurs., Feb. 7, 3-4pm: Teen Advisory Board – For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, please come and help us plan programs at the library that you’d like to see. We serve snacks! New members welcome.

Fri., Feb. 8 & 22, 10-10:30am: New Drop-In Story Time for Kids of All Ages – Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers are welcome to come listen to Picture Book Stories and have fun with Finger Plays and Action Rhymes. No registration required.

Fri., Feb. 8, 6:30-8:30pm: Teen Movie – “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind"

Warrior/pacifist Princess Nausicaä desperately struggles to prevent two warring nations from destroying themselves and their dying planet. (Rated PG.) Free popcorn and soda. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Sat. Feb. 9, 10-11am: Read to Clyde & Sara, Therapy Dogs – Clyde (a Maltese Terrier) and Sara (a Chocolate Lab) are best friends who love to listen to kids read! Sign up now to read to Clyde or Sara and listen while other kids read. For Gr. K-5. Call 878-6956


Mon., Feb. 11, 3:30-4:30-pm: China Program – Local students share their experiences traveling in China through pictures, souvenirs, and stories. Open to students of all ages.

Tues., Feb. 12, 3:30-4:30pm: NECI’s Tasty Reads: Chocolate – Join the NECI Student Chefs to make chocolate pops and strawberries dipped in chocolate. Then listen to some really sweet stories. For Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.

Thurs., Feb. 21, 3-4pm: High School Book Lust Pizza Club – Come chat about whatever book you’re reading right now and have pizza too! This month’s program is for High Schoolers, next month Middle Schoolers. Call 878-6956.

Fri., Feb. 22, 6:30-8:30pm: Family Movie: "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"
An apprentice witch, 3 kids and a cynical conman search for the missing component to a magic spell useful to the defence of Britain. (Rated G.) Free popcorn and soda. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Tue., Feb 26, 10-10:45am: Mystery, the Pet Rat – Come meet Mystery, the Pet Rat… Learn about rat and other rodent behavior and why rats make wonderful pets!!! (Tales and all) Grades K-5. Register at Youth Desk.

Thurs. Feb. 28, 2-4pm: Word Games for Kids – Come in to play Scrabble, Boggle, and Upwords and get ready for the Scrabble Night coming on Fri. March 7! All ages.
