Mon. 10/1, 7pm – Vt. Astronomical Society hosts 2 talks - Restoration of the 6" Unitron Refractor at Castleton State College by Ron Lewis & The International Astronomical Year by Al Boudreau
Wed. 10/3, 7pm – Antique Glassware 101 and Road Show - Ernest Hathaway, ISA glassware appraiser and antiques specialist to give short talk on American Victorian glassware followed by an unofficial evaluation of two pieces of your glassware which is at least 75+ years old: Tableware, vases and decorative glass, lamps, cut glass, old bottles and kitchen ware-no Pyrex or a950s era stuff. Free and open to the public.

Wed. 10/10, 7pm – Vermont Mystery Author Archer Mayor presents his latest book Chat; Buy copies of this new mystery and have them personally autographed by the author!
Wed. 10/17, 7pm – Rusty Dewees, Vermont actor, comic and now author of new book Scrawlins will read from his book. He is willing to autograph copies for sale.
Fri. 10/19, 6:30pm – Halloween film for adults: “Ringu” (1998 ~ unrated, contains violence). This extremely creepy Japanese film won several international awards and inspired an American version entitled “The Ring.” An unfortunate victim views a cursed videotape. Unless she can solve the mystery, she will be the next victim.
Thurs. 10/25 – Library Closed for Staff Long Range Planning. Opens at 1pm.

Fall Story Times! Story Times are offered on a weekly basis – regular attendance is encouraged. Space is limited in each group, to avoid overcrowding.
Here’s the schedule:
Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months) – 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, and puppets for toddlers with an adult. (Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)
Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets, and math activities for preschoolers. (Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)
Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program. (Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31)
Tues. 10/2, 3:30-4:30pm – My Peace Corps Adventure in Africa - Don't know much about Niger? Come hear Matt Graf (EHS graduate) discuss his trip from Vermont to a rural village in Niger, West Africa. There he adapted to life as a local, speaking Hausa and living in a mud hut. Cool pics, artifacts, and stories. For students of all ages.
Thurs. 10/4, 3-4pm – Teen Advisory Board and Farewell Party for Dan – Our Young Adult Librarian has a new job at UVM’s Bailey-Howe Library. Come give Dan a great send-off, and help us continue the fantastic work that TAB is doing with programs here at Brownell. New teen members always welcome. Party food!
Fri. 10/5 & 10/19, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by Friends of Brownell Library.
Thurs. 10/11, 3-4pm – Middle School Book Lovers Pizza Club – Come chat with Dan and your friends about any book you happen to be reading right now. This month is for students in Gr. 6-8. Call 878-6956 so we can order enough pizza for all!
Fri. 10/12, 6:30-8:30pm – Teen Movie: “Ghostbusters” – Supernatural Pest Control Agents go to work, after a girlfriend is possessed by an ancient demon. 1984 comedy stars Bill Murray & Sigourney Weaver. ( PG.) Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.
Sat. 10/13, 11:30am–12:30pm – Read to Clyde & Sara, Therapy Dogs – Clyde (Maltese) and Sara (Chocolate Lab) love to listen to kids read! Sign up now to read to Clyde or Sara for 10 minutes & listen while others read. For Gr. K-5. Call 878-6956.
Mon. 10/15, 10/22 & 10/29, 6:00-7:30pm – Beginning with Mother Goose – A reading and activity program for parents with children ages Birth to 3 years. Participants receive 9 free books for attending all 3 sessions. Hosted by Essex Early Childhood Connection. To register, call Sarah at 879-9422. (Childcare provided for children ages 18 months and up.)
Tues. 10/23, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: Pumpkins – NECI Student Chefs cook up Pumpkin Soup to serve with Pumpkin Bread. The chefs will read pumpkin stories, including a math mystery involving pumpkin seeds. Register. For kids in Gr. K-5.
Fri. 10/26, 6:30-8:30pm – Family Movie: “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” – The 1971 version of Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features Gene Wilder as the Candy Man. (Rated G.) Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Wed. 11/7, 9am – Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in the spring. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.
