Mon. Mar. 3, 7:30pm:Vermont Astronomical Society- 1. Astro Images- Ron Astey - producing astro images: from simple digital camera tripod to advanced imaging using equatorial telescope, will show fantastic images of star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. All levels. 2. Video Guiding System -Paul Walker - video setup for guiding during astrophotography, including 2nd diagonal mirror, 2nd focuser, tiny camera on pc board & video monitor. Intermediate

Tues. Mar. 5, 7pm: Vermont Women and the Abolition Movement-Jane Williamson of Rokeby Museum offers the history of the work women did around the region to fight for the end of slavery.
Celebrate Women’s History Month - Meeks Memorial Lecture.

Fri. Mar. 7, 6:30-8:30pm: Scrabble Night for All Ages - Come all Ye Word Birds! Novice and experienced players welcome for an informal evening of fun! Game sets provided, or bring your own.

Wed. Mar. 12, 7pm: Consuelo Northrup Bailey: Vermont Pathfinder, Vt. Humanities Council program presented by J. Kevin Graffagnino, Director of Vt. Historical Soc. Bailey was a national pioneer among women in public service. Born and raised in Fairfield, Vt, a 1921 graduate of UVM, she was first woman in America to serve as a State's Attorney, as Speaker of a State House of Representatives, and as Lieutenant Governor. Mon. Mar. 17, 3:30pm: Irish Stories by Linda Costello for All Ages-Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Éireann go Brách (Ireland forever!)

Tue. Mar. 18, 7pm: Library Trustees Meeting

Wed. Mar. 19, 7pm: Prof. Alfred Andrea, lecture “Holy War in World History.” will trace rationales behind and ways in which various cultures, including great monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, have sanctified warfare over the ages. Two manifestations of this phenomenon, which will receive special consideration, are crusade and jihad.

Thu. Mar. 20, 3:30pm: Book Discussion of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, led by Penny Pillsbury. Read or Reread this classic of American literature. Open to any one who has read the book! Library will have some copies, or bring your own.

Fri. Mar. 21, 6:30pm: Adult Movie “Crash."

This film dramatizes ethnic, gender, cultural conflicts that often arise between people of different beliefs and backgrounds. 2006 winner of multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Rated R.

Sat., Mar 22, 9:30am-2pm: Friends of Brownell Library Book Sale-Library Lower Level Book Room

Thu. Mar. 27, 2:45pm: Movie – “To Kill a Mockingbird”
(1962) with Gregory Peck.

This film, like all of our movie showings, is free and open to the public.

Youth Events

Preschool Story Times! Story Times offered weekly – regular attendance encouraged. Space is limited in each group, to avoid overcrowding.

Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months): 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes & puppets for toddlers with adult. (Mar. 4, 11, 18, 25)

Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds: 10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets, and math activities for preschoolers. (Mar. 4, 11, 18, 25)
Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds: 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program. (Mar. 5, 12, 19, 26)

Wed., Mar. 5, 9am: DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – Each month students in Gr. 4-8 hear book talks of 4 titles from this year’s DCF list. Students vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award in April. Group discussion encouraged! Call 878-6956.

Wed., Mar. 5, 9am: Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – Each month, students read and do activities with 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Voting takes place in April. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.
Thurs., Mar. 6, 3-4pm: Teen Advisory Board – For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, come. Plan programs you’d like to see. Snacks! New members welcome.

Fri., Mar. 7 & 21, 10-10:45am: Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by Friends of Brownell Library.

Fri., Mar. 14, 6:30-8:30pm: Teen Movie – "Young Frankenstein"—Mel Brooks’ spoof of the literary classic. Rated PG. Free popcorn and soda. Hosted by Teen Advisory Board.

Tues., Mar. 18, 3:30-4:30pm: Middle School Book Lovers Pizza Club – Come chat with Kat about whatever book you’re reading right now and have pizza too!

Tues., Mar. 18, 3:30-4:30pm: Read to Dieter, Therapy Dog – Come meet our new after-school pooch. Dieter is a Yellow Lab who is a trained Therapy Dog. He will listen to you read any book you choose. Sign up now at 878-6956. For Gr. K-5.

Tues., Mar. 25, 3:30-4:30pm: NECI’s Tasty Reads: Potatoes – NECI Student Chefs read funny potato stories while they prepare tasty potato dishes. For Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.
