Mon. 4/7, 7:30pm: Vermont Astronomical Soc. Brownell program- Product Reviews – Jack St. Louis, the Orion Binocular Viewer. It uses two eyepieces and both eyes, can be used on most telescopes. Paul Walker, Canon Remote Programmable Timer for digital cameras & SLOOH remote telescope site. Joe Comeau, Baader multipurpose coma corrector (MPCC). Donna Lescoe, Klutz Star Chart for people without equipment or experience. Moe Cloutier, zoom spotting scope with a 45 degree angle eyepiece. All levels.
Wed. 4/9, 7pm: Rev. Gary Kowalski, Burlington’s UU pastor, speaks on his new book Revolutionary Spirits: The Enlightened Faith of America’s Founding Fathers. Called “an energetic presentation of the religious positions and postures of our principal Founding Fathers reads more like an engrossing novel.” Books available for sale and autograph.
Mon. 4/14, 6:30-8:30pm in Main Reading Room: National Library Week WORD THROW DOWN – A Spelling Bee for Fun and Funds – Come watch the Teen Advisory Board take on the Trustees and the Staff, to raise money for some new intergenerational programming. Raffle and Bake Sale at the event. All ages welcome! Cheer on your favorite team and support your local library. Call 878-6956 for more info.
Tue. 4/15, 3:30-5pm: TAKE NOTICE ! Historical Talk about the American Revolutionary & the Green Mountain Boys Now, given by members of the recreated Colonel Seth Warner’s Regiment. They will discuss topics relating to the Revolution and early Vt history w/ living historians dressed as Vt soldiers. They will role play Green Mountain Boys, as well as key figures Ethan Allen, Seth Warner, Benedict Arnold, and George Washington, camp followers, recruiters. On view: soldier’s clothing and equipment, 18th century manual of arms. Open to all ages.
Wed. 4/16, 7pm: Rural Vermont – Shelby Hammond will present the need for VT farms to be allowed to grow industrial hemp, raise farm fresh meat and sell raw milk. Come discuss and debate these timely issues.
Thu. 4/17, 3:30pm: Big Read Book Discussion of Willa Cather’s My Antonia led by Penny Pillsbury. A classic, New York lawyer remembers his friendship with a simple Bohemian girl in Nebraska of the early 20th century. Open to everyone who has read the book. Pick up a copy at the Circulation Desk with a list of discussion questions.
Fri. 4/18, 7pm: Adult Movie – “Talladega Nights”— Will Ferrell stars in this satire lampooning NASCAR. This is an unrated version of the film.
Wed. 4/23, 7pm: Westford Poet Paul Paparella reading from his book On Waking Up All Over the World. Celebrate National Poetry Month!
Tue. 4/29, 3pm: VT WWII Pilot Major J. Francis Angier, marking the 63rd anniversary of his liberation from prison camp, will tell of his aviation career as a B17 pilot, where he was shot down and spent 7 months as a POW. Author of Ready or Not: Into the Wild Blue, he will offer copies for sale and autograph. Plenty of time for questions. Open to all ages.
Youth Events
Preschool Story Times! Story Times offered weekly – regular attendance encouraged. Space is limited in each group, to avoid overcrowding.
Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months): 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes & puppets for toddlers with adult. (Apr. 1, 8, 15, 29)
Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds: 10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets, and math activities for preschoolers. (Apr. 1, 8, 15, 29)
Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds: 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program. (Apr. 1, 9, 16, 30)
Wed. Apr. 2, 9am: DCF Booktalks for Homeschoolers – It’s Voting Day! Students in Gr. 4-8 who have read at least 5 titles from this year’s DCF list can vote for their favorite to win the DCF Book Award! Any student who isn’t voting at their school can also vote. Ask at Youth Desk.
Wed. Apr. 2, 9am: Red Clover Picture Books for Homeschoolers – It’s Voting Day! Each month, students have read 2 of the 10 titles on the list for this year’s Red Clover Award. Homeschoolers will receive a copy of the book they vote for today. For Gr. K-3. Call 878-6956 to register.
Thurs. Apr. 3, 3-4pm: Teen Advisory Board (TAB) – For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, come. Plan programs you’d like to see. Snacks! New members welcome.
Fri. Apr. 4 & 18, 10-10:30am: Drop-In Story Time for Kids of All Ages – Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers are welcome to come listen to Picture Book Stories and have fun with Finger Plays and Action Rhymes. No registration required.
Thurs. Apr. 10, 3:30-4:30pm: Middle School Book Lovers Club – Come chat with Kat about whatever book you’re reading right now and have some snacks too! For Gr. 5-8.
Fri. Apr. 11 & 25, 10-10:45am: Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by Friends of Brownell Library.

Tues. Apr. 22, 3:30-4:30pm: NECI’s Tasty Reads: Cheese – NECI Student Chefs read amazing cheese stories while they prepare tasty cheese dishes. For Gr. K-5. Register at 878-6956.
Wed. Apr. 23, 10-11am: Read to Dieter, Therapy Dog – Dieter is a Yellow Lab who is a trained Therapy Dog. He will listen to you read any book you choose. Sign up now at 878-6956. For Gr. K-5.
Wed. Apr. 23, 3-4pm: Yoga for Kids – Certified Yoga Instructor Jean Campbell teaches postures, movements and breathing techniques to students ages 7-14. Mats are provided. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for this relaxing hour. Register in advance at 878-6956.
Fri. Apr. 25, 6:30-8:30pm: Family Movie – “The Sword in the Stone” – Based upon T. H. White’s The Once and Future King, this Disney film brings the legend of King Arthur to life. Rated G. Free popcorn and soda. Hosted by TAB.
