Mon. July 7, 7:30pm – Vt Astronomical Society – Gary Nowak presents Gloucester Lighting: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - a presentation on different outdoor lights types and the light pollution problems associated with each types.- featuring energy saving solutions which produce good outdoor lighting. Free and Open to the public.

Summer Reading Program “Pollinate Your Mind”
Wed. July 9, 7pm – Bees Besieged-Bill Mares Vermont author of Bees Besieged , will talk of his travels in the US interviewing hobby and commercial beekeepers, honey packers and importers to identify the status of beekeeping in the United States and looks for answers to questions of disease, imported honey, research problems & effect of American agriculture policy on beekeeping. Free and Open to the public.

Wed. July 16, 7pm – William Mraz- Vermont’s bee expert to discuss the health benefits of honey. The Mraz family from Addison County are famous apiarist worldwide.Fri., July 18, 6:30pm – Adult Movie, “The Swarm” – This 1970’s Irwin Allen disaster film features an all-star cast engaged in a life or death struggle with a massive swarm of killer-bees.

Wed. July 23, 7pm – Health and the Hive: A Beekeeper’s Journey –Film by Jan Cannon of Monkton, Vt explores the importance of honeybees in our lives. Topics addressed in the film include pollination, queen breeding, disease control, bee venom therapy, organic agriculture and honey-based plant medicine. Free & Open to the Public.

“Booked for Lunch” series – Bring a bag lunch and listen to a librarian read
stories about all things buggy! We supply the dessert! For ages 5 and up. Choose 1 or 2 sessions from these 6 dates (note-

“SPIN A TALE” Drama Club – Our Young Adult Librarian shares her talent for Creative Drama with Kids entering Gr. 1-5. Students will act out the story in one of these Picture Books. Please choose 1 session:

Thurs. July 3, 2-3pm – The Leaf Men – The Doodle Bugs call on the Leaf Men to save the garden.
Thurs. July 10, 2-3pm - Martina the Beautiful Cockroach – This sassy bug has her pick of suitors.
Thurs. July 17, 2-3pm – Max’s Words – Explore the world of words and worms with Max’s cool collections.

Thur. July 3, 3pm — Teen Advisory Board — For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, come. Plan programs you’d like to see. Snacks! New members welcome.

Mon.-Fri., July 7-11 – “Mystery Word Week”
– Find the Mystery Word in a book to win a free creamee from Rocky’s in Essex Junction. 100 winners – for independent readers only! Word announced Monday.

Thurs. July 10, 3:30pm - High School Book Lust Pizza Club — Bring a book you have recently read to show the group. All high schoolers welcome.

Thurs. July 10, 5pm - Create-a-Bug Entries are due. (Kits were handed out at Summer Registration.)

Fri. July 11, 6:30pm - Teen Movie, “Juno” - A comedy about growing up... and the bumps along the way. Faced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual Thurs decision regarding her unborn child. Rated PG-13 Free Popcorn and Soda. Hosted by the TAB . ***Special Post-Show discussion about the issues brought up in the movie!***

Mon.-Fri., July 14-18 – Create-a-Bug Voting Week – All patrons can vote for their favorite bugs in various categories.

Mon. July 14, 3-4pm – Sacred Beetles of the Sun – Fleming Museum presents an art program on ancient Egypt, featuring scarab beetles, mummies and scorpions. Students will create art to take home. For kids entering Gr. 1-6.

Wed. July 16, 11-11:45am – Visit the Vermont Lake Monsters – Come meet players from our local minor league team, the Lake Monsters, who will autograph your glove or ball. For kids entering Gr. 1 up.

Fri. July 18, 10-10:30am – Songs and Stories with Matthew – Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells amazing tales. Come join in the happy buzz! For all ages – no registration required.

Fri. July 18, 2-3pm – Songs and Poems to Really BUG You – Gary Dulabaum entertains with songs about marching hip-hop ants and rockin’ buzzin’ bees, a poem about jazz-playing crickets, and more. Come sing along! For kids entering Gr. K-5.

Mon. July 21, 4-5pm – The Bugs in Your Back Yard – Insect Expert Jerry Schneider presents slides, mounted specimens, and live insects to explore the world of bugs all around us. T-shirt craft follows: bring your own or $4 to buy one. For Gr. 1-6.

Tues. July 22, 3:30pm — Middle School Book Lover’s Club-Come chat with Kat about whatever book you’re reading right now and have some snacks too! Entering Gr.5-8.

Wed. July 23, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: Honey & Other Bug Treats – The student chefs from New England Culinary Institute will prepare a sweet treat with honey and make some bugs out of fruits and veggies. For Gr. K & up.

Fri. July 25, 6:30-8:30pm – Family Movie: “Charlotte’s Web”
– In this original version of EB White’s classic, a spider with a flair for promotion pledges to save a young pig from slaughter. Rated G. Free popcorn & soda served by Teen Advisory Board.

Mon. July 28, 2-3pm at Rec. Dept. Pavilion on Maple Street – Teddy Bear Picnic, with The Swing Peepers – Bring your own favorite bear or stuffed toy to hear Matthew Witten & John Hadden sing earth-friendly songs and act out rollicking stories. Refreshments served by Friends of Brownell Library. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. For all ages.

Wed. July 30 , 2-2:45am – Bug Weaving Mats – Create a ladybug, grasshopper, butterfly, or bee with colorful strips of paper. Hang one in the library and bring one home! Weaver stories, too. Choose 1 session. For kids entering Gr. 2-6.

July 29 through Fri. August 1, 1-4pm each afternoon — ”Identibugs” Sculpture Workshop with Tina Logan

Using recycled materials and insect inspiration, create metamorphosis artwork! Entering Gr. 6-12. Limit 15 people.
