Wed., Aug. 13, 6:30pm — Puzzles & Pastry: Design your “Art Fits Vermont” puzzle piece.

Fri., Aug. 15, 6:30pm — Adult Movie, “The Mist” — A group of everyday town folk are trapped inside a supermarket by a malignant fogbank in this 2007 thriller. Watch out for the bugs!

Tue., Aug. 19, 7pm — Library Trustees Meeting


Wed., Aug. 20, 7pm — “Let Me Introduce Myself”Master the handshake & introductions with Mary Smolinski, Consultant.

Thu. Aug. 21, 9am-1pm — Library Closed

Wed., Aug. 27, 7pm — “Simply Manners” — The do’s and don’t of personal and interpersonal behavior with Mary Smolinski, Consultant.

Read The Restless Spirit; the Story of Robert Frost by Natalie Bober, Vermont Reads 2008. Mark your calendars for a Robert Frost Brownell Library Field Trip by bus to Middlebury on Saturday, September 6th.

“Catch the Reading Bug” and “Metamorphosis” Summer Reading Programs wind up this month. With over 2000 books read so far, we will continue counting your books until school starts. Bring in your Reading Records!

Aug. 1-30, Count the Glow Worms! — They’re in a jar at the Youth Desk. Winner gets them all! Sorry, kids only!

Fri. Aug. 1, 6:30pm — Vampire Party — Explore the Vampire world with a campy vampire movie (1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Rated PG-13), bloody treats, and an evening of fangs and fun! Costumes highly encouraged.

Mon. August 4, 6:30pm — Teen Makeover Evening with Red Clover Salon — Come and learn how to look your best with the Independent Stylists at the Red Clover Salon. Enjoy refreshments and experience your own metamorphosis. Limit 15. *This event will be held at Red Clover Salon, 20 Lincoln Street, Essex Junction.

Wed. Aug. 6, 2-2:45am — Bug Weaving Mats — Create a ladybug, grasshopper, butterfly, or bee with colorful strips of paper. Hang one in the library and bring one home! Weaver stories, too. Choose 1 session. For kids entering Gr. 2-6.

Wed. Aug. 6, 6:30-7:30pm — “Catch the Bug” Story Hour — Come hear some insect stories and have fun with buggy activities. Then we’ll head outside with butterfly nets and bug jars to see what we can find on the library lawn. For kids entering Gr. 1-5. Note: No insects will be harmed at this catch-and-release event!

Thurs. Aug. 7, 3pm — Teen Advisory Board — For teens, by teens. If you’re a teenager, come. Plan programs you’d like to see. Snacks! New members welcome.

Fri. Aug. 8, 3:30pm — Luna Book Talk — Join the discussion of this GMBA nominated book by Julie Anne Peterson about gender identity and exploration. Copies of the text will be available at the Youth Desk. If you haven’t read the book, come discuss these important issues anyway! We want to hear your voices. Entering Gr. 8 and up.

Fri. Aug. 8, 6:30pm — Teen Movie, “Spiderman 3” - A strange black entity from another world bonds with Peter Parker and causes inner turmoil as he contends with new villains, temptations, and revenge. Rated PG-13. Free popcorn and soda. Sponsored by TAB.

Mon. August 11, 6:30pm — Yoga for Teens — Join yoga practitioner, Gaby Goldberg as she teaches postures, movements and breathing techniques to students entering Gr. 6-12. Mats provided. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Limit 15.

Thurs. Aug. 12, 2-3pm @ A.D. Lawton School – Our Final Summer Reading Party – No Strings Marionette Company performs “Jack and the Beanstalk” with giant puppets. Kids get an achievement certificate and a free book. Register starting Aug. 1 - For all kids who show us their Reading Records, so we can count their books!

Wed. Aug. 20, 3:30-4:30pm – NECI’s Tasty Reads: Ice Cream – A favorite summer treat and cool stories read by chefs. For K-5.

Fri. Aug. 22, 6:30-8:30pm — Family Movie: “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!” – A nutty scientist works on a top-secret machine which miniaturizes objects. When it starts working, he's so amazed he forgets to tell his family to be careful. Rated PG.
