Tues., Sept. 1, 7pm – NESN Baseball Red Sox v Tampa Bay in Kolvoord Community Room.

Thu., 9/3, 9/17, 9/24, 9am & 10am – Seniors! Learn Very Basic Computer Skills with Emily Moynihan. Learn computer lingo, use Word, search the World Wide Web, set up an e-mail account, use the mouse. Sign up required- 878-6955.

Fri., Sept 11, 6:30pm – Movie Night: “American Pastime” (2007) depicts the Japanese-American internment at Topaz Relocation Center in Utah during WWII where baseball offers diversion and a challenge to prejudices. The program complements Vt. Reads 2009.
Sat., Sept 12, 2-5pm – Reception in honor of late artist Pierre Eno.

Mon., Sept 14, 7pm – How to Do Civil War Genealogical Research with Cathi Wiest Desmarais – Professional genealogist shares her knowledge of the most productive sources and methods for finding your ancestors’ Civil War related history.

Tues., Sept 15, 7pm – Library Trustees Meeting in the Kolvoord Community Room.

Mon., Sept. 21, 8-10pm – Autumnal Equinox Public Star Gazing Session sponsored by VT. Astronomical Society and Brownell Library at the Tree Farm Recreational Facility, Old Colchester Road , Essex Jct. astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for the general public. Expect to see nebulae, “Local Group Galaxies” millions of light years away, Planet Jupiter & Milky Way’s globular star clusters. Event dependent on clear skies. Sept. 22 (Tuesday) the “back up” date in case of clouds. Free & open to the public.


Wed. Sept. 23, 7pm – Professional storyteller and actress Li Min Mo tells Japanese folktales for all ages in honor of the Vermont Reads 2009 book When the Emperor Was Divine.


Sat., Sept. 26, 1pm – NESN Baseball Red Sox v Yankees in the Kolvoord Community Room.

Sun., Sept. 27, 1pm – NESN Baseball Red Sox v Yankees in the Kolvoord Community Room.


Wed Sept. 30, 3:30 pm – Shakespeare’s London - a travelogue by Martha Lang, Ph.D who just returned from England. Armchair travel is fun. All ages welcome.

Wed. Sept. 30, 6-8:30pm – Dine and Discuss with Prof. Jane Ambrose Vermont Reads title When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka. Bring Asian style food to share. Library will provide beverages & dinner ware. All ages who have enjoyed the book welcome. Copies of the book available from Brownell, Chittenden Banks (5 Corners & Susie Wilson), and the Northfield Savings Bank.






Youth Events


Registrations begin Tuesday, Sept. 1st for Fall Story Times! Story Times are offered on a weekly basis – regular attendance is encouraged. Space is limited in each group, to avoid overcrowding.


Here’s the schedule which STARTS IN OCTOBER:

Tuesday Story Time for Toddlers (18-36 months) – 9:10-9:30am – Picture books, songs, rhymes & puppets for toddlers with an adult.


Tuesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Picture books, songs, rhymes, puppets & math activities for preschoolers.


Wednesday Story Time for 3-5 Year Olds – 10-10:45am – Repeat of Tuesday program.

Thur., Sept. 3, 3-4:30pm – Teen Advisory Board — For teens, by teens. Plan programs you’d like to see, suggest books and DVDs you would like in the collection, have fun, bring friends. Snacks provided! New members always welcome. Entering Gr. 9-12.

Fri., Sept. 11 & 25, 10-10:45am – Songs and Stories with Matthew — Matthew Witten performs songs about our world and tells adventurous tales. For all ages - no registration. Funded by the Friends of Brownell Library.

Thur., Sept. 17, 3:30-4:40pm – MPH (Middle School Planners and Helpers) – Students in Gr. 6-8 come and help re-design the YA room, help out with cool projects, and talk about what’s on your minds! Snacks too!

Fri., Sept. 18, 10-10:45am – Drop-In Story Time for Kids of All Ages – Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers are welcome to come listen to Picture Book Stories and have fun with Finger Plays and Action Rhymes. No registration required.

Fri., Sept. 18, 6:30-8:30pm
– Teen Movie: “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” – High school student Nick O'Leary meets college-bound Norah Silverberg and she asks him to be her boyfriend for five minutes. Popcorn and soda. Hosted by TAB. (PG-13)

Mon., Sept. 21, 3-4:30pm – Wii-tastic – Come try our new Wii Game System! MarioKart, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play!

Thurs., Sept. 24 , 3:30-4:30pm – High School Book Lust Pizza Club — Bring a book you have recently read to show the group. All high schoolers welcome.

Fri., Sept. 25, 6:30-8:30pm – Family Movie: “Bolt” – The canine star of a fictional sci-fi/action show that believes his powers are real embarks on a cross country trek to save his co-star from a threat he believes is just as real. Popcorn and soda. Hosted by TAB. (PG)

Wed., Sept. 30, 6-8pm – Potluck Supper and Book Discussion for Vermont Reads 2009: When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka. Pick up a copy today at either desk and start reading. Bring Asian food to share. See details above in Mostly Adult Events.
